The limitations of the roaming capabilities in Notes

In today’s corporate environment, companies often struggle with the problem of how to gracefully support users who need to be able to access their Notes client configuration and data from any PC on the network – roaming users or nomads. IT Managers also worry about how they can keep current backups of their users’ Lotus Notes client configurations for recovery in case of hard drive failure or laptop theft.

While roaming user capabilities are now included in Lotus Notes, those capabilities do not maintain the user’s complete configuration. A number of key files that many users consider important or critical to their productivity are missing when they move to a different workstation. Among the missing files are their email signatures, some user preferences, some data files, and the primary starting page for many Notes users, the Workspace (desktop.ndk).
